STUDENT GRIEVANCE REDRESSAL POLICY

1. Preface

Christ College of Science and Management is committed to fostering a campus environment that promotes academic excellence, fairness, and transparency. The institution acknowledges that grievances may arise from time to time and has therefore constituted a Student Grievance Redressal Cell (SGRC) to address these in a structured, impartial, and timely manner.

2. Objectives

  • To uphold the dignity of the institution by promoting responsive and accountable practices.
  • To provide all students with a forum for redressal of grievances.
  • To resolve complaints fairly without bias and with utmost confidentiality.
  • To improve the overall academic and administrative performance of the institution.

3. Composition of the Committee

  • Principal – Chairperson
  • Vice Principal – Member
  • Head of Department (relevant to grievance) – Member
  • Senior Faculty Member (preferably female) – Presiding Officer
  • Legal Advisor (where necessary) – Member
  • Student Representatives (2-3) – UG and PG Level
  • Grievance Redressal Officer (Nodal Officer) – Convener

4. Roles and Responsibilities of SGRC

  • To receive and address complaints relating to academics, administration, facilities, peer behavior, and staff conduct.
  • To ensure that all students are treated with respect and dignity and that their voices are heard.
  • To maintain records of grievances and action taken.
  • To educate students about grievance mechanisms and policies through awareness programs and notices.

5. Policy Guidelines

  • Students may raise concerns related to:
    • Evaluation and examination processes
    • Infrastructure and support services
    • Faculty behavior and teaching practices
    • Administrative delays and procedural issues
    • Peer conflicts, bullying, or unfair treatment
  • Complaints must be genuine and submitted with supporting evidence, if possible.
  • Anonymous complaints will be considered only if accompanied by credible evidence.

6. Jurisdiction

Grievances can be filed by:

  • A student against another student.
  • A student against faculty or administrative staff.
  • A student group concerning common issues.
  • A parent or guardian (with student consent).

7. Redressal Procedure

  1. The complainant submits a written grievance to the SGRC Nodal Officer or via the official grievance email portal.
  2. A preliminary review is conducted within 7 days.
  3. If found valid, a formal hearing is arranged within 10 working days.
  4. An inquiry committee examines the complaint and submits a report.
  5. Based on the report, the Principal initiates suitable corrective or disciplinary action.
  6. If required, unresolved grievances may be escalated to the University Grievance Committee.

8. False/Baseless complaint

  • Complaints found to be intentionally false or misleading will result in disciplinary action.
  • A show-cause notice may be issued to explain such behavior within 3 working days.

9. Punishments

For students:

  • Warning or written apology
  • Suspension from classes or college events
  • Debarring from exams, hostel, or scholarships
  • Expulsion from the institution
